The Entity: Spirates

What are Spirates?

Spirates are best thought of as being puppets of an entity. Most spirates were formerly human, however the person that once was typically no longer exists once they cross over. Spirates usually function in tightly knit collectives, and have a hive mind, connected to each other and to the entity controlling them. Very rarely do they have a semblance of free will, and if they do, it's best kept to themselves.

Very little is known about spirates, even for me. As such, not much can be written about their nature or temperament, as this often depends highly on the entity they are pawns of. What is known is that a human can usually not be saved from their new self once they've changed, and that they are much weaker when faced alone than with their fellow "hive."

In some cases, there has been evidence of humans being able to temporarily break free of their extreme mind control, though it is unknown if this is genuine or a manipulation effort. Spirates typically act as the smaller, "human" branch of an entity that cannot live or do their deeds among humans, instead using puppets to do so for them. Entities that employ this tactic are considered highly dangerous and unethical, even among fellow nonanthropes. Spirates, along with their host entity, usually form tightly together as a way to achieve a higher goal- usually obtaining more power or influence for their host entity, or spreading to more human victims.

Are Spirates Dangerous?

Yes, spirates are dangerous. It is important to remember that they rarely have a mind of their own, and what they do is in service of a highly dangerous, skilled entity with a greater goal. Exercise extreme caution, and preferrably keep a long distance from anyone you suspect of being a spirate.
